Why Mike?

"I have spent my career serving this community."

Judges play a very important role in our community, so who we elect matters. The legislature writes and changes our laws. A judge’s job is to fairly apply the law to each case that comes to court.  As a court commissioner for the past 10 years, I have performed this duty with integrity and care. I will continue to do so as your District Court Judge.

District Court handles non-felony cases – things like misdemeanors and gross misdemeanors. I support a balanced approach to criminal justice that improves public safety, uses resources responsibly, and protects individual rights.  It is in everyone’s interest to hold offenders accountable and help reduce the chance they reoffend in the future.  I believe judges should consider up-to-date research and proven methods when deciding which resources are most appropriate for each person. A judge must ensure that due process is followed in each case. This protects the rights of the accused and preserves public safety.

District Court also handles non-criminal cases, like protection orders, infractions, small claims and other civil disputes.  My goal is to guarantee that everyone has an opportunity to present their cases and that each case is decided efficiently and according to the law.

I have spent my career serving this community — as a military officer, a 911 operator, a prosecuting attorney, and a court commissioner. Being your District Court Judge would let me continue serving Spokane County with fairness, accountability, and respect for the law.

I would be honored to earn your vote.
